This is so frickin idiotic, so ignorant, so corporate, sofaking stupid, hold on gotta catch my breath I am so pissed off...... Ya think all the Ricky Bobby bullcrap I have heard spouted in server and lobby would prove they had more than ample and successful advertising, but they had to resort to nascar as well as AOL owned nascar.com, to shovel more fertilizer to the ever hungry dumbf***s who evidently crave and need this retarded M'fer to satisfy what ever abnormal lobe they have left to call a brain. www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/08/04/rbobby_test/index.htmlI doubt I will ever watch a Will Ferrel anything again.... as this crap has already been worn out before the movie even premiered. I also will never buy Wonder Bread ever again. I am so frickin pissed off that they would insult most true fans with this stupidity, and more pissed that so many are supporting this corporate advertising machine. Sorry I am late, my ride is here. Gotto go to the cinema to check out Talladega Nights. I will be back next week with my next editorial and to help you understand WTF is going on.

That is pretty retarded. A fakie published on Saturday Night, for a movie that opened friday afternoon.
You know why, right? Opening weekend numbers. They want a Sunday push to get good opening weekend numbers. A good opening weekend means a longer run in theaters. That's where they (production companies, distributors, etc.) make their money. In the box office. The marketing machine will most likely slow down a tad after this weekend, and really slow down within a week or two. At least, until the DVD release, when it will crank right back up again. But that is a few months down the road.

My semi-review:
I had some old free movie passes, so we used them to see Talladega Nights on Friday. Somewhere in all of this hype, I had herad that "you need to be a NASCAR fan" to understand much of the humor. Being a Will Ferrell movie, I didn't have high expectations that this was going to be a real thinker film, but those comments caused me to expect a hint of technical accuracy and a few really clever NASCAR gags that would make the typical fan chuckle.
Instead, the on-track humor was so dippy that even when I turned off my brain's critical side, I just couldn't enjoy the on-track stuff. It literally made me squirm in my seat to try to ignore everything I know about racing just to watch the "racing" scenes. I would best describe the track portions as "Disney kids' show" stuff.
I don't think it's a spoiler to list a few examples:
- driver jumping out of car to go to the bathroom and get a sandwich during a race - car placing 3rd at Talladega after being off the track for almost five minutes - driver reading a book and drinking a macchiato while racing - constant downshifts into 3rd gear used to pass cars at superspeedways
...and so on. Don't even get me started about the incessant attempts to get laughs over a heavy French accent. I don't know who would find this stuff funny -- maybe very young kids who have never seen these gags before.
The movie wasn't a total washout. To me, there were some really funny family scenes. Maybe that's what they were looking for: a scene or two that would hit everyone's funnybone. But the end result for me was not a complete film, but a broken collection of mismatched comedy skits.
It all left me wondering why they didn't hire one single NASCAR fan to act a as a racing humor consultant to make sure they didn't insult people's knowledge.
As a fan of the sport, you can at least have fun during the racing scenes by looking for the on-track inaccuracies. One of my favorites was the mixture of Unocal 76 and Sunoco decals on the cars.

So is Talladega Nights a rough equivalent of say...Pearl Harbor?

DATELINE: 9/30/2006 The hype is gone. Rikki Bobbi has passed. I am sure Will Ferrell will unleash more of his "unique comedian like absurdities" on the uninformed public that will buy a crap sandwich if it is made with wonder bread. Here is a brighter note: Talladega Nights has brought in 146.694 million dollars so far which is further proof that most people will buy and eat crap sandwiches with or without ketchup. www.the-movie-times.com/thrsdir/top60dir/top60.mv?sep22_06
