So I got the demo of this to check it out cause the video on You Tube looked ok. It was a huge file (1.18 gig) but I lucked out and found a site with massive d/l speed so it only took me 8 minutes to get.
The demo installed ok and after spending a few minutes learning the menu that went ok too. The demo offered several cars and a couple tracks to run and the usual eye candy settings. I went to try a race after setting up my controls (a joystick) and expected the usual uncontrollable car that I crash into a wall every 20 feet because of crappy controller settings. That didn't happen.
I was able to controll the car pretty dang good without tweeking anything so after a bit of tweeking I was able to control the car enough to win 2 races right away. The visuals were very nice and the frame-rate was real good so I had to say to myself "this is EA? WTF?"
Well, I hate to say it but I thought I'd buy it based on the demo. I did that today and it installed with no problems and everything setup fine. I have to say, it does have that STUPID career mode but I can give it a shot.
So I tried a couple races offline and won both and like the demo that graphics and frame-rate were good so I figured I try the on-line mode. You can only have 8 players per race and I'm not sure of how many laps you can set if you host but you can host private races for just you and your friends. I did a random search and entered a race with 5 other drivers, I was a level 1 rank and they were level 37-59. (higher rank the better) The race started and we were off but WTH?, no lag or nothing, it was all smooth slick racing and all of a sudden this jerk behind me slams me in the rear pushing me into a dirt pile so he could get my place.
Little did he know who I was so by the time I got going again I was in last place. Knowing now that "rubbing is racing" I caught up to that pack and passed 2 cars clean and then I saw the dik with no brakes. We came up on a turn and I thought "gee what a great spot for a broadside" so I slammed in the side and he started rolling like he was a bakery cook and because I was on the brakes when we hit I was able to take right off again. I managed to stay ahead of the other cars but never caught 1st so I finished race in 2nd.
I thought the game was ok, certainly a lot of fun so for now I consider it a keeper. A few others tried the demo and could not get it working but I had no problem.
I also found that on my 3 sceen system it does not work right (visually) but when I went to 1280x1024 windowed it worked fine.
Like I said, for me it's a keeper, the 2009 Dodge Challenger in there looks fantastic and the 09 Tang is real sweet too along with all the other cars.
There's my 2 cents.................
